Telestroke in Washington Court House
Cutting-Edge Innovations at Fayette County Memorial Hospital
Telestroke, or The Stroke Telemedicine Collaborative, connects doctors
at Fayette County Memorial Hospital (FCMH) with stroke doctors at the
Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This modern, innovative program
uses advanced teleconferencing technology in the emergency room to confer
with experts at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center. Together, our
doctors and specialists and Ohio State’s experts work to ensure
that our patients and their loved ones receive the best and most effective
care possible.
Stroke is always a medical emergency. Research shows that treatment by
an expert stroke team within three to six hours of your first symptom
can slow or stop the effects of stroke.
Telestroke is available to you and your family 24/7.
How Does Telestroke Work?
When you arrive at the emergency room with symptoms of a stroke, a “Stroke
Alert” takes place. This alert lets our staff and Ohio State’s
Wexner Medical Center know that you need immediate help. Ohio State’s
stroke team quickly comes together and talks to our providers on special
video equipment, right there in the emergency room. To slow or stop your
symptoms, Ohio State’s stroke team assists our doctors in giving
you treatments that may include dissolving or removing blood clots that
cause strokes.
How Does the Telestroke Program Help Me?
- The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a Primary Stroke Center—meaning
it has been recognized for its specialized stroke care capabilities.
- Wexner Medical Center’s stroke experts are doctors with extensive
experience in stroke care and research. The center also has the only surgeons
in central Ohio who can perform both traditional surgery and endovascular
surgery. Endovascular surgery is a special type of surgery that helps
patients recover more quickly.
- When a stroke occurs, every minute for the patient counts. The Telestroke
program allows our facility to respond swiftly to these patients with
the collective insight from the best stroke team in the region.
