What is price transparency?
Price transparency is Fayette County Memorial Hospital’s commitment
to making information on the cost of health care services transparent
and assist patients in determining what their anticipated cost will be
based upon the patient’s specific insurance type and plan. Our dedicated
Financial Counseling Team is here to assist you by gathering a patient
and encounter specific estimate for any service rendered.
Price Transparency is a dedicated plan to assist policymakers and others
to hold health care providers accountable for setting fair prices. Fayette
County Memorial Hospital is committed to sharing information that will
help you make important decisions about your healthcare plans.
Prices for the same health care service can vary drastically across providers,
facilities or demographic area. It can be difficult for consumers or patients
to get information to compare anticipated services based on both price
and quality.
Can I get an estimate?
Yes. Please contact our Financial Counselors at
financialcounselors@fcmh.org or call (740) 333-2725 for an estimate of the care you may require, based
on the specific services ordered by your doctor and your insurance coverage.
Chargemaster vs. What You Actually Pay
As required by federal regulation, FCMH has posted its
Chargemaster (a complete list of our hospital charges). This file includes charges for all items and services provided by our
facility. Providing meaningful information to our patients about their
healthcare costs has long been a goal of our hospital.
Understanding the actual cost for healthcare services is complicated, and
not as simple as referencing the charges listed in the above Chargemaster file.
The amount of money you will be responsible for paying is generally determined
by your insurance coverage or managed care company, not by the hospital.
Also, all doctors, hospitals or services may not be covered by your plan.
Unfortunately, we do not have this information available to us before
you receive care from our hospital unless you request a comprehensive
estimate. Your best source for information about what you will have to
pay will come from your insurance company. By requesting an estimate with
an FCMH Financial Counselor, we will be able to reach out to your insurance
carrier in advance and work in conjunction with them to provide you the
best quote possible.
Medicare, Medicaid and the Uninsured
Medicare and Medicaid pay hospitals according to a set fee schedule. It
represents a significant discount from a hospital’s billed charges.
Numerous factors, such as co-insurance and deductibles, affect your own
financial responsibility. A summary of Medicare patient payment requirements
is provided at
www.Medicare.gov.
If you have no insurance coverage at all, our hospital provides discounts,
needs-based financial assistance and partners with various organizations
to work on covering your healthcare cost based on qualifying needs. You
can review our policies and download an application
[application attached]. Our Financial Counselors are here to help you determine the type of assistance
you may qualify for and assist in establishing an affordable payment plan.
Multiple Physician Billing
During your stay, you may receive services from individuals or companies
not employed or owned by Fayette County Memorial Hospital. For example,
the law requires that a licensed radiologist review your radiology exams
and advise your physician of their findings. Radiologists are not employed
by our facility; therefore, you will receive a bill directly from their
office for their services. These charges
will not be included in your bill from our hospital. Even if our hospital is in
your insurer’s network, it is possible that individual doctors or
other providers are out-of-network. Independent providers contract with
insurance companies directly, apart from our hospital’s contracts.
Your insurance carrier can also inform you which providers are in-network
on your plan and will be able to provide estimate of their coverage for
these services.
It is our goal to make you aware of any charges that will be billed to
you separately by other providers. If your doctor orders services such
as radiology, advanced lab testing, or anesthesia a separate provider
fee may be assessed. Feel free to ask our staff for assistance in determining cost.
