Breastfeeding Class

"Family-Centered Maternity Care"

This class meets the second Monday of every month from 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. in the Medical Arts 2 Building, 1510 Columbus Avenue. This class is for new mothers and their families to learn the benefits of breastfeeding and the "how to" of breastfeed so they are more comfortable when their baby arrives.

The topics discussed include positioning the baby, how to tell if your baby is getting enough, scheduling - how often the baby should eat, engorgement, sore nipples and hormones with breastfeeding. Other topics reviewed are when to start a bottle and how, going back to work, and pumping and freezing breast milk. There is a video shown, but most of the class is lecture and interaction.

There is no cost for mothers who are delivering at FCMH and a $10.00 fee for a mother delivering at another hospital. Husbands, partners and support persons are welcome and encouraged to attend.
